City of Amarillo Fire Station #5
Fire Station #5 had the challenge of being a large, 2 company station on a compact site. The solution was to create a 2 story station with sleeping rooms and locker rooms upstairs and the main living quarters and offices downstairs. This allowed us to utilize 2 fire poles which the firemen were very excited about. The large 3 bay Apparatus Bay features fast opening 4 fold doors to improve the firemen’s quick response time. The new Fire Station opened in April of 2021 and has proven to be a huge asset to the City of Amarillo.

City of Amarillo Fire Stations #3 & #9
In an effort to replace aging Fire Stations and move them to more strategic locations to serve a growing community, the City of Amarillo is building 3 new Fire Stations. Stations #3 and #9 utilize the same floor plan which houses 1 company of 4 firemen per shift. The exterior features a variety of metal panels to minimize maintenance as well as windows to provide natural lighting throughout the building. The large Apparatus Bay features fast opening 4 fold doors to improve the firemen’s quick response time. Station #3 opened in the spring of 2019 with Station #9 following in October of 2019.

Convention Center Parking Garage and Retail
The new Convention Center parking garage and retail building is one of the many new structures constructed in downtown Amarillo, Texas. Located between the new Convention Center Hotel and the new Xcel Energy building, the 4+ floor parking garage provides needed parking for Hodgetown Stadium, Civic Center, Convention Center Hotel, and Globe News Center for the Performing Arts. Over 26,000 SF of retail space covers 2 sides of the new structure which will include restaurants, shopping, and entertainment.

Santa Fe Building Restoration
A complete Historical Restoration of the prestigious Santa Fe Building in downtown Amarillo, Texas. This 138,000 square foot building was purchased by Potter County in 1996 and Lavin Architects was commissioned to renovate the building to house all of the offices of Potter County as well as restoring many of the building’s architectural features. The building was originally built in 1928 by the Santa Fe Railroad Company and consists of 12 floors with a penthouse, a basement and a sub basement.

Simms Municipal Building
When the City of Amarillo outgrew its current City Hall Building, they chose to move several City Departments to another building at 808 S. Buchanan. Lavin Architects worked very closely with all the departments at the City to identify which groups should be relocated to the new facility and which should remain in the existing building. All department heads were interviewed to determine present needs as well as projected growth requirements. In addition, the City of Amarillo updated the exterior of the building to present a more cohesive image to the community. The move has been very successful giving all departments much needed additional space carefully designed to meet their current and future needs.
